International Summer School on Salt Intrusion in Estuaries. June 22nd – July 2nd, 2026. Granada, Spain
AIMS
The school aims to provide students with an integrated view of salt intrusion processes in estuaries through thematic lectures, discussions of case studies on salt intrusion issues from around the world, and hands-on practical sessions led by internationally renowned experts.
Specific topics will cover from fundamental concepts to advanced applications or current knowledge of salt intrusion in estuaries

This Summer School is intended for MSc and PhD students who are interested in physical processes in nearshore and estuarine systems. Our students are expected to be familiar with basic concepts (at least, end level of Sc. or Eng. bachelor) of: hydrodynamic and transport equations, ocean waves, boundary layer properties, mathematical and statistical methods, and computer programming.
How to prepare
During the summer school, we expect each student to give a presentation about his/her own research. Presentation should not be longer than 10 min, so that, please, time it in advance

Schedule
The course consists of a 10 days period. The school is comprised by 38 hours of lectures and assisted practices, approx. 10 hours of field excursion to a desalination plant in the Andalusian coast, and 10 hours of students’ presentations. The student’s working hours also include: short individual presentations (10 min/student) in which they introduce themselves and their research interests; and teamwork to carry out practices. Short projects are expected to be carried out by students groups of 4-5 students each under supervision of the lecturers. Students are expected to present the outcome of the case studies (approx. 15 min/group).
Field excursion to the desalination plant is scheduled the June, 28th.
